FRAUD WARNING
It has come to our attention that individuals falsely representing themselves as government officials or representatives of the AirBit Victim Fund (“AVF”) are contacting individuals who have filed, or may have filed, petitions with the AVF. These individuals are falsely informing petitioners that their petition has been approved and that, in order to receive a distribution payment from the AVF, the petitioner must complete certain “compliance” requirements. In particular, the perpetrators are requesting that victims send cash or cryptocurrency to complete a purported “federal compliance step” or otherwise facilitate the release of their distribution payment.
Under no circumstances will the U.S. Department of Justice or the AVF require a petitioner to pay money or cryptocurrency in order to participate in the AVF remission program or to receive a distribution payment.
DO NOT SEND CASH, CRYPTOCURRENCY, OR ANY OTHER PAYMENT in response to such a request.
If you receive a communication requesting payment in connection with your AVF petition or distribution, do not provide any funds or cryptocurrency. Such requests should be reported promptly to the DOJ and the AVF through the official contact information provided by the AVF.
